Loppers are a scissor-shaped gardening tool used for pruning twigs and small branches. They are the largest type of manual garden cutting tool. Generally they are operated with two hands, and handle size may vary to provide optimum leverage depending on the type of job. Some have telescopic handles which can be extended to a lengths of up to two metres, to make short work of those larger or hard to reach jobs.

Secateurs, also called hand pruners or pruning shears, are a scissor type tool used for gardening and are sturdy enough to prune solid branches of trees and shrubs, sometimes up to two centimetres thick. Clevedon offer two types of secateur, anvil and bypass. Anvil secateurs have only one blade which closes onto a flat surface. Bypass secateurs usually work exactly like a pair of scissors, with two blades passing each other to make the cut.
